What does the config setting PERCH_PRODUCTION_MODE used for?

First SG question of the morning and year. :)

I've placed it my config but I'm unsure how to take advantage of it or what is main purpose is.

No hurry on answer, but am a wee bit curious.

It sets which mode you're in: Production, Staging or Development.

Right now it's used by:

  • Blog caching
  • Events caching
  • Controlling the level of debug info reported
  • Opcode cache invalidation in development
  • Caching headers in Runway

Is this a recommended setting to use then Drew?
In terms of those things you listed above. How are these affected in the various modes?

I am intrigued too. Never really used it but have seen it several times.

Thanks Drew. Makes sense to avoid caching during development as speed performance isn't key when wrangling a site.
