Asset-Upload save files in folder protected by htpasswd

hi,

is it posssible to save assets in an password protected folder? i need a upload function for PDF files. some are accessable for everyone and some not. the protected area does already exist with an htpasswd file. the client wants to keep this as it is. thanks
