Interactive Crop image for thumbnails and other uses

I'm looking to have the user import a high resolution image and then I would like the user to be able to interactively crop the image based on an aspect ratio that I define. The link above comes close to what I'm thinking, but I'm not sure such a thing can be integrated in the Perch CMS.

What I have are images that are being uploaded that may be very wide or tall and they will need to be cropped to a perfect square. I know I can have the cropping and sizing automatic, but it will base the crop on the center of the image, and that is not necessarily appropriate for all images. There may be cases where the user will want to "zoom in" on the image as well.

I haven't tried Kraken yet - but it doesn't appear to support the interactive cropping. CKEditor appears to have a plugin with the functionality, but I need the item in the CMS to be an image and not an HTML text area.
