Editing Asset File Creates New Asset

Is there any way to configure the asset management to update an asset's file without creating a new asset? Here's the scenario I'm trying to solve for:

  • A file is pulled using the web path instead of the file name
  • An editor updates an asset with a new version of the document
  • The web path url still works because the id hasn't changed and there is no new asset, just an updated file

So you're asking for a 'replace' feature that would delete the existing and use the old file name for the new file?

No. So, an Asset record has a File. I want to be able to upload a new File to the Asset without creating a new Asset record. Am I making sense? Currently I update an Asset File and when I save there is a new Asset record.

That's the same thing as far as I can see. What am I missing?

Oh, I see what you're saying. I would be happy even if the file names had to be the same, but currently, if you edit an Asset and upload any file on that edit screen then you end up with a new Asset record. So, yes, some sort of Replace feature.

Ok, great, I'll log it as a request.

Thanks!
