Help me understand "categories"

I don't understand what Categories are and how they differ from Collections.

  • Why use a Category instead of a Collection?
  • Why is it that categories go only one level deep?
  • I don't understand a Category "path" - is this part of a URL or used for filtering and identification?
  • How are categories related to items in other templates?

Why use a Category instead of a Collection?

If it makes sense for your data - Categories are also Perch-wide so you can categorize content of different types. But you should use what makes sense for the content you have,

Why is it that categories go only one level deep?

that's not correct.

I don't understand a Category "path" - is this part of a URL or used for filtering and identification?

It's the path to the category, because they can go more than one level deep we need to know where they are.

See the documentation for examples https://docs.grabaperch.com/docs/categories/filtering/

How are categories related to items in other templates?

I don't understand the question I'm afraid. You can add category code to any template you like, how it is related would be again down to your data. We're providing a tool, not a prescription :)
