Image Gallery and Categories

Hi,

I am building a site for a builder in standard Perch. There is a Services page, and also a Featured Projects section. I am using the Categories app to manage the services (e.g. Extensions, Renovations), which means the featured projects can also be categorised and filtered.

I need to also add an image gallery page. This also needs to use the categories set up above so it can be filtered, and images can be categorised. Am I right in saying the Gallery app doesn't work with the Categories app? If so am I best to use perch_content_create and perch_content_custom ?
