Change in permissions

There has been a change in that we have taken control of our website back but have been able to contact the person who had the original license.

Therefore we have bought our own license.

We only have update rights rather than full admin rights. We have emailed for support and we had an answer (See below) but were then guided to the forums to get more support. The original answer was:

"...the client to buy their own license and replace the key in the config file. With regard to the CMS itself, you can change the credentials of the admin account or delete editor accounts when logged in as the primary admin user."

We can't see where to do this... Not used to this cms at all. Please can you provide a "Granparent guide" to help us do this and put the final piece in the jigsaw?? Thanks in advance!

Do you have database access through phpmyadmin? If so, a simple copy and paste will put you in as master admin.

While database changes are very often discouraged, sometime this is the only way I am able to make access.

Sadly Victoria, you'll need ftp access to the config.php file on the web server. You can't edit the config files through the control panel.

This will not allow access, as config.php sets database un/pw not actual user controls.

You will need it to add the new licence number though won't you?

Yes, that is true for the license. But ultimately cpanel access will likely be needed at some point. This will allow changes/backup of database, access to file system and ftp control. It's a mess when you have to replace a super admin who has all the keys to the castle.

As has already been explained, you need to be able to access the files on your web host. To do that you will need to contact your hosting company to get access.

The file you need to change the license key in is perch/config/config.php once you have access to your files.

If this is something you are unable to do then you should really contact a web developer, for example one of our Registered Developers, for assistance as we can't help with hosting issues and getting you access to your files as we don't even know where your site is hosted.
