Show fields instantly when changing post type?

When editing posts in the Blog app, switching to another post type doesn't change the visible editing fields until after the post is saved and the editing page refreshed. This can lead to required fields left empty — since the fields from the new post-type's template aren't displayed (and therefore, aren't checked on submit), the new required fields of the new post-type remain empty until the post is edited again.

Can this be fixed (other than the "obvious" workaround of instructing editors to assign the post type before doing anything, save as draft, and only then start editing new posts)?
