What is the difference between the Shop (Paypal) and the new Shop app?

I have a client who is looking for me to rebuild some sites for him. I nearly have him sold on switching to Perch for the CMS instead of carrying on with Wordpress but the shop is the sticking point as he has one site that needs to be an online shop.

So the new shop plugin is in private beta but what does it do that the existing Shop (Paypal) plugin doesn't?

It's currently in Beta, so it will launch once we're happy it's ready for general release and is fully documented etc.
