Moving a site to new host (Memset)

I'm moving a site to a Memset VPS and wanted to know the best way to test Perch on a temporary address like xxxx.miniserver.com/~username

I've exported and imported database and amended config file and my license details so whilst I am sure that the data is there, it's not very easy to test on the temporary address. Login page is there but unstyled, redirect after login doesn't work for example.

I've looked through documentation but couldn't find anything. Thanks in advance for your help.

Just found this which may help https://solutions.grabaperch.com/development/multiple-server-config

.... although this just appears to be different username and password information for different domains.

Any other help welcome

OK, have changed hosts file which helps.

I think I have answered my own question here!

You do not want to ever use a tilde address. They create a weird subdirectory.

Just point a subdomain to that server temporarily, keeping root as root (or as you may have done already just use your hosts file to override the actual DNS entry for the domain.)

Hosts file amendment has worked. Thanks!
