Issues setting up on Easyspace

I've built about dozen Perch websites normally everything goes smoothly, however when trying to connect to an Easyspace database I get errors:

I tried setting up a fresh install and ran into this error:

SQLSTATE[HY000] [1045] Access denied for user 'ew78cn998'@'10.1.0.153' (using password: YES)

I tried importing a database from a local build and ran into this error:

SQLSTATE[HY000] [2054] The server requested authentication method unknown to the client

Can anyone give me any pointers please?
