upgrading perch - ERRRR

Hi

I have a problem upgrading perch from 2.4.9 to 2.8.11

I get this error followed by many similar:

Warning: include(__DIR__/../inc/pre_config.php) [function.include]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /websites/LinuxPackage02/re/am/_c/ream.co.uk/public_html/admin/core/runtime/runtime.php on line 13

I added this to runtime.php to try and eradicate this error:

if( !defined( __DIR__ ) ) define( __DIR__, dirname(__FILE__) );

but then i get these errors/warnings:
