Get 'Prices Entered as' from Setting to website template
Hi Is it possible to get the value of the 'Prices entered as' from the settings page into a template so it can output on the website?
I'd simply like to show on the website that the displayed price is 'ex Tax' or 'Incl Tax'.
I'm looking for it in perch_shop_product(); If I <perch:showall/> I can't see any reference to that value.
Help/advice appreciated!
Hi Graham
It depends on how you are applying tax to a product. The default price is inclusive of the tax you assign in the tax group. If you had two tax groups "zero" and "vat" you could do an switch statement on that value? Or enter the price in trade if it isn't taxed and check on that. The issue is that there might be tax applied in one country but not another (e.g. VAT is 20% in the UK but not applicable to US customers).
Jon
Thanks Jon Appreciate your input.
I think to compare that you'd need to know the location as well. Because if 'VAT' is applied to an item you'd have to filter the tax group by location to get the value. At least I think that's how it might go.
I don't know how to target tax groups with a function.
Thanks again :)
It's a really complex requirement as you'd also need to know where the customer was from first to know the tax amount to remove.
If it's just for the UK then you know what you are dealing with. You could create a template filter that takes off 20% of the price for visual purposes. Once you're at the cart level then all the tax ids are exposed.
If not then, although I haven't used trade prices, I imagine that's the way to go, because I think the price is entered without tax and then tax is added at the cart level - but, as per many times before, I may be wrong!
I know, sometimes it's the simplest things...
Location not such an issue as you can check if they're logged in or not. I've already managed to ascertain the country_name and countryID from that. If they're not logged in then it displays as default location.
It's after that I get stuck because there doesn't appear to be any way to query the tax rates. All that seems to happen in the cart functions which makes sense.
I think I'm just going to use a standard content region (shared) containing a standard statement on pricing across the website. Seems easier...
Thanks again
Best of luck!
We only calculate the tax at the cart currently.
