Basic instructions for clients

I am just about to hand over this site to client:

https://www.heywoodhouse.com/

and was wondering if there is an kind of basic instructions document for clients to edit and manage their site. I can of course do one myself but dont want to if there already is on in place somewhere. Thanks

Hi there,

On the sidebar there should be a blue question mark icon, which is a link to the default help page for editors.

You can change where this link points to in settings so you can create your own help if you wanted it.

Due to the fact that each individual Perch site is different due to the fact you can customize each template any standard help isn't likely to be all that helpful. We'd suggest adding help text using the various inline methods and then writing your own documentation if required on top of that.

Would this help? I saw this video, Editing Content with Perch, earlier today. It's a good basic primer but is based heavily on Markitup editor https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjRLtRbR-0k

Good advice for new users to have live site open in one window, perch in another.

Typically I write a style guide for each client as their templates will likely all be different, but I have a base format from which I start from, that covers Perch basics.

Other points that need to be emphasised are around assets, particularly images, pdf files etc...

it really helps speed if users roughly resize images to a reasonable size before uploading (many clients may have shared hosting with low limits on upload file size and processing)

also helps that you encourage good file names so encourage my_good_filename.pdf as opposed to my.useless / filename.jpg
