assets / resources question

Having upgraded a site recently from V1.8.x to latest version I am having an issue accessing images that were uploaded to resources directory under V1. In Perch admin I can see the references to them, and in output html the file path is there but images do not show. In Perch admin | Assets I can't see them either, though they are actually in the resources directory.
