Events date fieldorder & label

Are you able to use the "fieldorder" and "label" on standard required Date field? When I edit these in my template I see NO changes. I don't see anything in the docs that mentions this.

The Events app is quite old, so it's not fully configurable. The 'fixed' fields aren't affected by the editing controls in the template.
