Perch page/regions not populating instantly

Sorry for the incredibly simple question, but I've been encountering this for a few weeks now while using Perch and it's driving me crazy.

When I add a new page.php file to the root folder, which contains perch regions within the page, it takes a fairly long time for the page to show up in my control panel. If I wait, it does end up showing up but it's causing my workflow to slow down dramatically. I'm not working in a dev environment, but on a live server.

Is this causing the lag? Are there ways to speed up the process with the current workflow I'm using?
