Backup question

Hi

I'm running nightly backups of my website, but for some reason the assets folder isn't backing up. Only the database is getting backed up?

These are my Perch backup settings:

Perch Screenshot

Cron settings:

Perch Screenshot

This is what my Dropbox backup folder looks like. For some reason there's a folder called default, it has some images in it, but it's not a backup of my resources folder.

Perch Screenshot

This is the resources folder I was hoping would get backup up.

Perch Screenshot

I understand asset backups happen incrementally but I've been running this scheduled task for months and the resources folder never appears.

I was hoping you would be able to see if I've done anything obviously wrong.

  • Perch Runway is up to date (2.8.24)
  • PHP 5.6.10 is up to date
  • MySQL 5.5.42 is up to date
  • Image processing available

Can you show me your diagnostics report?

Sure. I've replaced any reference to the client website - if there's anything in here that might be sensitive would you mind deleting this part of post once you've looked at it please? Cheers.

I can see you've got >1300 resources - are they all in local buckets?

Yes, they're all in different buckets. See screenshot below:

Perch Screenshot

Is it a problem if they are?

Shouldn't be a problem.

Where are the placeholder- images you have backed up from?

They're just loose in the resources folder.

How come in the Dropbox backup folder there is a folder called default?

I would expect the Dropbox backup folder to mirror the name and contents of the resources folder.

Is there anything I can do to give the backup a kick start to work as expected (backing up both assets and database)?

There are quite a few files in the resources folder now. If I can get this fixed I'll run a cron job every 10 minutes this evening until it's all backed up :)

There should be a folder for each non-remote (local) bucket. You've got one for the default bucket, so that's correct.

I'm trying to understand why more files aren't backed up - hence the questions.

It looks like your backup has only run 16 times. Does that sound right?

I've got 68 .gz backup files in my Dropbox backup folder.

Does this help?

What's in your perch2_backup_runs table?

This:

Perch Screenshot

'Something' is happening. Although my Dropbox backup folder hasn't changed since 12:15 this afternoon.

The Scheduled tasks list looks odd. Result nothing to do? Duration 0s? Is that normal?

Perch Screenshot

Is that from the same server as the diagnostics report above? (That says you've got 16 rows in that table, but I can see 43+)

Yes, it's the same server. The diagnostics report above was from this afternoon. The scheduled tasks have been running every 15 minutes since then.

A bit strange, |'ve not changed any settings on my cron jobs. So I'm not sure what's activated the cron jobs to run every 15 minutes... Until today my backup folder was updated with a new database backup once per day.

Here's the latest diagnostics report:

So it looks like it's trying to backup the assets, but for some reason that's not completing. I'll need to take a look into some possible causes, but I might not get a chance for a few days yet.

No problem. Thanks for the great support!

Hi Drew

I'm still having problems with Perch Runway backup.

Did you manage to find any time to look into this?

I'd really like to get this working.

Are you assets in a local or remote bucket?

Hi Drew

  • Assets are local, split into multiple folders within the resources folder
  • perch2_backup_runs table has 3000 rows, the runResult for most of them is IN PROGRESS

Diagnostics report and screenshots have been provided in previous posts

  • Is there anything else I can give you to help diagnose this?
  • In another post you mentioned Perch keeps a track of what's been backed-up. Is there anyway to reset the database tracking - would that help?

You could try that, it might help. Until I've identified why your run isn't completing it's hard to say conclusively.

Ok.

Would deleting the perch2_backup_runs table do it?

Will perch2_backup_runs table reappear once a backup is run?

Don't delete the table, but you can truncate it.
