Perch Runway Routing - Different File Extensions

Hi,

With Perch Runway routing, is it possible to use any file extension without adding anything to .htaccess?

For example: /sitemap -> sitemap.xml

I've tried it out and seems to work fine, but wanted to check before I use on live site.
