Error - Invalid query: SQLSTATE[42000]
We had a website running Perch 2.8.14 and blog 4.6 - it was running fine on Friday, then the client's host provider did some upgrades or something. They won't say. Monday morning the site was showing no Blog Posts and just 1970.

I won't bore you will details about convo with host, but we upgraded client stage, Perch to 2.8.26 and the Blog to 5.0.
We turned on error checking and we see:
Invalid query: SQLSTATE[42000]: Syntax error or access violation: 1055 'thepoint_stage.main.postID' isn't in GROUP BY
And also:
Array ( [type] => 8 [message] => Undefined offset: 0 [file] => /home/thepoint/public_html/stage/latest-issue.php [line] => 81 )
Our dev stage did not show any errors.
Is this from the host running mySQL in STRICT mode?
The problem has now magically resolved itself, the site running the old core and blog work now. I'm trying to find out what happened and the host won't say if they changed anything. Any help much appreciated as we don't want this happening again.

Can you show us your diagnostics report?
Did you get to the bottom of this? Any feedback would be really helpful for others.
Hi Drew, we finally got the hosting company to admit they stuffed up... after numerous support emails and phone requests.
"Based on the update from our higher support, the changes made was on the mysql configuration. The changes done was on the backend with our Tier 3 Support Team.
Rest assured since this case has been worked on and have been fixed, this will not happen again. We are looking forward for everything to be working fine also on your end."
So whatever it was, they fixed it on their end and was a not a Perch related issue.
This was the client's own hosting account with Crazy Domains, however it cost us time and the client money.
*** Let this be a lesson to clients and devs wanting cheap hosting... you get what you pay for! ***
