Get latest Album and navigation to next/previous album

Hi.

I have usually used variations of the sample galleries in the past but I'm trying to do something that isn't covered.

Is there away to use the page functions /templates to do the following

1. Show one album based on order, I am using perch_gallery_build but the variable of one only shows 1 thumbnail.

2. Is there away to navigate to the next/previous album based on page order

I realise this might be a big task but I thought I'd ask before looking at another solution.
