Booking add-on

The Events app is great and I use on many of my clients sites.

It would be great to see an integrated Booking module for events!

What sort of functionality would you be looking for? What does it mean to 'book' ?

Hi, Drew.

I guess I wasn't as transparent as intended :)

By booking I mean a reservation / signing up. So that when there's an event people could sign up to that event, possibly see how many places are left, even get some sort of code for entrance and so on.

Events app is great and the calendar makes it super flexible for so many uses!

I've had a few clients ask for similar features involving payment (perhaps suitable for the Events or Members App), variations have been:

Events App

  • join an Event (register with name/email/pass, total places, places left, choose time slot if multiple available)
  • pay to join an Event
  • give people who have joined the event access to content for that Event (similar to members app)

Members App

  • pay for access to content (pay once, get access forever)
  • subscribe to content (pay, get access for x days, automatically charged again or unsubscribe)

I think the payments could be done with PayPal callbacks (not sure if you can start/stop PayPal payment subscriptions with those?).

The ability to have the Events/Members join/signup form send details of registrations to MailChimp would be useful. Looks like it's possible - https://docs.grabaperch.com/docs/mailchimp/template-tags/.

Are any features similar to these on the roadmap for Perch or Runway?

I agree with Tom that payment is good to do with paypal. I haven't tried your e-commerce (Shop) plugin. There are so many options regarding payments and every country has its own 'banking portals'. Main thing there is to have a easy usable API for transactions. Here's an example documentations of one popular Finnish gateway -> https://docs.verkkomaksut.fi/

Tom has many good points. Mailchimp integration for particular event to particular newsletter would be great. That way updates for the event could be pushed easily through email.

Hope you can find a nice way to integrate these features to Perch.

I have had same come up before and also had to write a booking engine with Codeigniter at a past agency and it isn't an easy task.

There are a number of good Software as Services that handle the complex part of the process and payments so might be worth looking at how you can integrate their API's with the events and form apps. Similar to mailchimp and foxy cart apps
