PerchShopProductImporter overwriting custom fields?

We are using PerchShopProductImporter to sync products every hour or so. Is it possible that it is resetting products custom fields?

We set a product as ''New'' and then run the sync script and then the ''New'' field gets unchecked. How do we maintain those custom fields values?
