Is it safe to move the perch folder after it is installed and configured?

I am planning on uploading my site to a test area on my website, before launching, and am wondering if I can safely move my perch installation when I'm completely ready to go live.

For example, if I have perch installed at

www.myserver.com/testarea/perch/

can I then move it out of the "testarea" folder right into the root of my site, which would be

www.myserver.com/perch/

without breaking anything?

I wouldn't recommend that. All the pages would be initialised with the wrong paths, so you'd have to go through and fix them all to make it live.

Thanks so much. You and Rachel have been extremely helpful, and so quick to respond!

Working with Perch has been a truly impressive experience, all the way around.

Hi Michael, you can still test the site before you make it live.

Use a subdomain e.g. test.example.com before moving it to the live server. Your Perch folder would be in test.example.com/perch which will keep the paths the same for when you move it to example.com/perch

You can also set up a different database for each version of the site allowing you to test changes/updates on test.example.com before making them live. To manage the different database/user/pass combos there's an article on the options you can set in your Perch config.
