renaming regions

is it now possible/is there an optimum way to rename regions on a page/

Thanks Drew, I should have been clearer, I just wanted to know if it IS now possible before I try and do it! Any tips/tricks/things to avoid?

Make sure you update your page templates to use the new region name. Be aware that if you do the two out of sync you'll get both region names at once.
